Yoga with Frances Hawley

Frances spent several months working with us at Las Chimeneas over a decade ago now and we have never lost touch.  She was passionate about yoga then and lead classes for our guests and we are now delighted that she can return to Las Chimeneas for a wonderful week of solstice yoga!  We are sure her lovely light style and passion for food (as a food nutritionist we are looking forward to her working alongside our own Chimeneas chefs !)  will be all the ingredients for an amazing week .

About Frances

In 2008 (after 8 years of practicing yoga regularly), I went to India and qualified as a yoga teacher with the International Sivananda yoga. It was a life changing experience and the wonder of yoga was fully revealed to me, I came away determined and inspired to share my knowledge to as wide an audience as possible.
My style of teaching has evolved a long way from Sivananda, as I have always endeavoured to make yoga as accessible as possible to a western audience. Most of my students live very busy lives and are juggling work and family – they may love yoga but only have time to get on the mat 1-3 times a week. I am also aware that most of my students spend their days largely seated and lent forward at office jobs. This awareness of what most peoples’ lifestyles are like really informs my teaching. I have learnt to creatively adapt traditional postures to make them more achievable whilst still getting all the benefits from the original postures.
Students regularly report experiencing transformation not only on the mat; but also off the mat; as they find inner calm and acceptance. I am passionate about helping people awaken to the untapped energy within, and to experience more freedom, joy, wisdom and bliss!  In this retreat you will learn how to work with a breath-centred practice and develop a mindful approach to practising yoga. At the beginning of the class, you will be encouraged to set your intention.  This simply means bringing your attention to a quality that you would like to emulate for your time on, and off, the mat. That quality could be gratitude, strength, awareness of breath – whatever you want to cultivate.

The majority of the class will be based mainly around the practice of asana (postures).  We will also practise the ancient art of pranayama, the practice of breath control which lies at the heart of yoga.  We will focus on a few commonly practised breathing techniques which are known to instantly calm and revitalise the mind and body.
